Central Summer: Turf Maze & Tideway Trail

Join Chris for a 7.8-mile (12.5km) walk from Burton upon Stather along the River Trent to the historic village of Alkborough and the wildlife-rich Alkborough Flats.
We follow the river north toward Alkborough, where we’ll visit Julian’s Bower—a rare turf maze with far-reaching views over the Humber Estuary. Just a short walk from there, we’ll stop for refreshments at The Paddocks Tea Room.
From there, the walk continues onto Alkborough Flats, a peaceful wetland reserve created from former farmland. Now home to reedbeds, grazing marsh, and a variety of birdlife, it’s a great spot for nature lovers.
We return along the same route to Burton upon Stather, finishing with the option of a refreshing drink at The Sheffield Arms.
