Meet Dan Byrnes!

Submitted by Hello Liam on

We’re delighted to be welcoming our new Membership Engagement Officer to the OutdoorLads staff team later this month! Dan Byrnes will be joining Liam and Yvonne in the office, and will be the first point of contact for new and existing members.

Dan has been an OutdoorLad for almost three years and has attended a whopping 190 events in that time – yes, he’s into climbing! He’s a sport climbing, indoor climbing, and bouldering leader, and you may also recognise him from his shifts working on the bar at BIG Events, too.

We had an exceptionally strong field of candidates to choose from at interview but Dan really impressed with his broad range of experiences and skills  which we feel make him perfect for the role. He’ll be assisting members in getting the most out of OutdoorLads, as well as getting the word out there to those who aren’t members – yet!

We’re excited to have him on board soon. We asked him a few questions to find out a bit more:

Hi Dan… welcome to OutdoorLads as a staff member! You’ve been a member for a few years now, and have also become a climbing leader. What does OutdoorLads mean to you?

I joined OutdoorLads when I moved to Manchester nearly 3 years ago and didn't know anybody. For me it was a great way to make friends and settle in to a new city. And it's also given me so many new hobbies I didn't have time for in my past life!

You’ve got yourself involved in quite a lot so far – what’s been your favourite OutdoorLads moment to date?

I met my partner through bouldering with OutdoorLads, so I suppose I'm obliged to say, "Meeting Aaron."

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I'm looking forward to working with Yvonne, Liam, our leaders and the trustees. So many awesome people to call colleagues. I've got to know so many people through OutdoorLads, and I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody else. You can quiz me on names later.

What do you do when you’re not on an OutdoorLads event?

We recently bought a caravan, so trying to justify that purchase with as many weekends away as possible!
