Wye Valley Camp
Symonds Yat - Herefordshire 19 to 21 September 2014
Symonds Yat is a village divided into East and West by the River Wye. The only direct connection between the two is a hand pulled ferry by which the ferryman pulls people across the river using an overhead rope for a small charge. High above towers Yat Rock, a limestone outcrop 500 feet high. One of the most featured views in England extends in almost every direction as the river winds through a heavily-wooded gorge in a horseshoe bend around the rock. Surrounded by thick woodland and some of the most gorgeous riverside walks in England, you can also unwind at the end of the day with pint in hand and your feet dangling in the river. What Is The Area Like?
Symonds Yat is all about the river. It splits the village in two spanning the counties of Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. It means that the only way to travel between the two halves of the village is by hand-pulled chain ferry - the last of it's kind in the UK. The river itself cuts through a spectacular woodland gorge with some of Southern England's most iconic views. On Sunday we could take a river cruise on one of the boats for a different view of the Wye.The ferry across the Wye The River Wye One of the river cruisers
What's Going To Happen On This Weekend?
Friday night: Arrive and get settled into the campsite. We'll have a chance to catch up and have a few drinks. Saturday daytime: There'll be a chance to do a hike in the area. As we'll be a small group, we'll all set out together and we will climb to the top of Symonds Yat Rock. We'll aim to be mindful of everyone's abilities and aspirations for the weekend. Saturday night: We will eat in a local pub. We'll then relax, socialise & chill out. Sunday daytime: We will most likely take one of the cruisers along the river today, before heading home.Food & Drink
You will need to bring all your own food and drink on this weekend as per a traditional camping event. There are shops close by as well as a small shop on site. A pub serving food is about 5 minutes walk away from the campsite. The famous view

If you have a specific question or if you’ve not been on an event before you should find the answers you need here. OutdoorLads across the country is growing. Are you enthusiastic?
