Tees Valley Series Egglescliffe and Preston Hall River Walk
12 people attending
8 places left
Join Steven and the OutdoorLads for a wander around the scenic edge of the Teesside urban area following the Teesdale Way.
This is an easy walk through pasture, woodland, parkland and visiting several buildings of interest along the way skirting through leafy suburbia.
The previous lockdowns have focused the local population on exploring the great routes nearby for their daily exercise and this particular route has been done a few times by the walk leader.
The area is very rich in wildlife especially if you are interested in ornithology. The two nature reserves are managed by the local wildlife trust Quarry Wood and Preston Farm Nature Reserve. The extensive grounds of Preston Hall are a great place to stop for a snack , this was the home of the affluent Lord Ropner who made his fortune in the shipping industry , Preston Hall is now managed by the local authority as a museum and park. Several popular big events are held here such as the Fire Engine and Steam Rally.
The route of the Stockton to Darlington Railway was on the west side of this site and there are several stories in the local records of Lord Ropner being unhappy about what happened to his trees as a result of the passing steam trains.
For an easier walk but still clocking in a fair few miles for your daily exercise come along to this corner of Teesside and sample the best of the lower Tees Valley
