Snowdonia Climbing & Scrambling Weekend - SCRAMBLING
13 people attending

We're back in North Wales for another epic weekend of mountaineering in one of our favourite mountain huts!
This event is only open to people booked onto the bunkhouse weekend. Please book your place on the bunkhouse event as well as this scrambling event.
While you wont need technical rock climbing skills you will definitely need a head for heights, to be sure footed and have a sense of adventure; all the scambling options will involve some "hands-on-rock" during the day.
This event is for scrambling on both the Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday
We will offer a few scrambling options;
- Two different Grade I routes for maximum of 4-5 Members each (including leader). Essentially Grade I is that hazy middle ground between hill walking and rock climbing; it's the art of moving among spiky, steep or exposed terrain, typically attempted without ropes/protection and so needs a head for heights and the us hands on rock over the trickier sections.
- One Grade II/III route for a maximum of 3 Members (including leader). Here, the line between scrambling and rock climbing becomes a lot more blurred, and the use of protection becomes more advisable for grade II and expected for several sections on Grade III routes, which often appear in climbing guides as ‘Moderately’ graded climbing routes!
Please message the Event Leader (Sieh) when booking if you are interested in the Grade II/II option - as places are clearly limited and will be allocated on a "first come - first served" basis, and we'll run a 'Waiting list; in case people have to drop out or change their mind.
Sunday
We'll make the final decision over breakfast to suit the group's aspirations (and weather forecast!).

What to bring
Standard kit list for a day in the mountains as below, along with a climbing helmet (which must be worn for scramble sections). A climbing harness WILL be required for the Grade II/III route and may be required for the other routes. (These maybe available to borrow from the leader, if requested before the event).
Also, although this grade of scramble is possible in a walking boot, you will feel more secure with a firm soled scrambling boot (B2) or an approach shoe. If you are going to wear walking boots you may want to bring a pair of rock shoes for the challenging climbing sections on the Higher Grade Scrambles.
Water: Bring around two litres
Head torch: Useful for walking back at dusk
Medicines: Any you carry as standard, e.g. if you have hay fever, diabetes, etc.
Day rucksack: Typically 30 plus litres, as they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely
Boots: See above. Waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking/scrambling. There will be muddy sections. Trainers are NOT suitable.
Socks: Proper walking socks to help keep your feet dry and prevent blisters
Layered clothing: So you can quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
Trousers: No jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry quickly and on warm days, shorts are OK
Waterproof jacket: Essential when hiking, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry quickly
Waterproof Trousers: Essential, even if the forecast is for no rain
Gloves: Windproof, or better still, waterproof, and bring a spare pair if expecting rain
Hat: Stay warm in cold weather or for protection against the sun
Sunglasses: For any sunny day
We will conduct a quick kit check before we set off to ensure everyone is suitably equipped for a day in the mountains!!
Food & drink
A packed lunch, including snacks and drinks will be needed for both days as it will not be possible to leave the scramble and visit shops midway through the day.
