Starting from Rhyd Ddu on the Rhyd Ddu path, we will deviate and continue towards some interesting industrial archaeology of old quarries and slate spoil before reaching Bwlch Cwm Llan. From here we take a short pathless ascent to Yr Aran (747 m), one of the smaller and least visited peaks in the Snowdon massif. Hopefully we will have good views of Snowdon, Moel Hebog and the Nantlle Ridge.

After this little detour, we return to Bwlch Cwm Llan and our next challenge is the Snowdon South Ridge. It is estimated that over half a million people visit Snowdon each year, however this is one of the less crowded routes to the summit. Allt Maenderyn (the south ridge) has a path that is generally quite distinct, often punctuated with a few easy scrambles. Eventually we reach the narrow Bwlch Main as it merges with the Rhyd Ddu path as we near the summit of Snowdon.

Hopefully the summit at 1,085m will be cloud free and we can enjoy extensive views in all directions. The café should be open and you can compete with the crowds to purchase any refreshments you may require.

We return via Bwlch Main on the way down, but keeping to the Rhyd Ddu path we will have some refreshment in Rhyd Ddu to celebrate a successful ascent of the highest peak in Wales.
