Total distance is around 20 km (12.5 miles) with 320 m (1050 feet) of ascent. Approximately 6 hours of walking. Some paths over fields are uneven and may be boggy in wet conditions.

This is a circular walk I have been wanting to do for a while. It is a walk around the country park taking in some of the hidden gems, including the remains of the Shipley Hall, Marlpool railway station, the former woodside colliery, the site of American Adventure and a trip to a windmill café.

This walk is following on from Shipley parkrun event on the same day, why not make the day of it by attending both.

The history of Shipley Park

The Shipley estate is an ancient manor mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086), when it was recorded as belonging to Gilbert of Ghent, the nephew of William the Conqueror. Records dating from the 14th century show that the land was used as a sporting estate with a hunting lodge on Shipley Hill and the area was prized for its extensive forest and excellent hunting.

Note: If there are no places left on this event, join the waiting list, as people frequently drop out during the week before an event, and you are likely to get a place.
