A variety of easier 'trad' climbing routes so you can climb and enjoy the scenery!

This event is being run in parallel with the Gower Sport Climbing event - if 'sport' is your prefered climbing flavour, why not take a look here?

Gower, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is one of South Wales' most beautiful and accessible climbing spots. With dramatic coastal clifftops, long sandy beaches and its own little micro-climate it forms the perfect setting for a weekend of climbing. Whilst the Sport climbers are sending their bolted routes, a couple of us intend to head out to find some of the many and varied easier graded trad routes along the coast.

This event is part of a weekend of event. To sign up for Sunday, please click here.

For those staying for the weekend, we'll be staying at a local camp site - please see venue details below for more information.

A scramble?!

As we're a small group, we may (conditions and experience pending) undertake a coastal scramble as part of the day. The event leader will get in touch with everyone in the group in advance to ensure that we can accommodate what everyone wishes to get out of the day. If you're interested in this bit please ensure you bring your exposure to heights, as well as the items in the kit list below!

What experience do I need to take part?

As a minimum, you'll have climbed indoors with Outdoorlads before and can fit a harness correctly and belay another climber safely. Ideally, you'll also have lead climbing experience and be able to safely belay a lead climber. If you're not sure whether you have the experience required, please contact the event leader before signing up.

Weather and Tides

Climbing is a heavily weather-dependent activity, so the nature of the event may need to be changed at short notice should conditions dictate.

In addition, as we'll be on the coast, some of the climbing areas are only accessibly at low tide so timings are a guide and please be prepared for slightly unconventional (for Outdoorlads) climbing times! Tide times are as follows: Highs at 0230h & 1506h/ Lows at 0836h & 2118h

Participation Statement

As a BMC Affiliate member, Outdoorlads draws your attention to the fact that climbing is an activity with a danger of personal injury or death. You should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for your own actions and involvement.

Please note that every person participating should be aware of (and accept) that those members perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified, and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves as ‘technical experts’ but are amateur climbers with some experience and who are happy to impart their knowledge.

Any advice given should be considered with this in mind by the recipient.
