A leisurely 4 mile walk , mainly flat and on a circular route

Saltaire Festival finale brings two stages with huge line-ups with non-stop live music from local ska, salsa, pop and rock bands with DJs from 10am until 7pm and fun fair. Entry to the festival is by optional donation, it's run by a charity.

Join us for a wander around Saltaire, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Salts Mill, a complex of award-winning cafes, restaurants and boutique shops.

Saltaire Village is near Bradford in West Yorkshire. It is named after Sir Titus Salt who built a textile mill, known as Salts Mill and this village on the River Aire. Designed by architects, Lockwood and Mawson, Saltaire has beautiful Italianate architecture and a rich history. Saltaire Village was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001 and Salts Mill is home to amazing paintings and digital art by the world renowned artist David Hockney, who grew up here.

There will be a relaxed and friendly four mile walk through Roberts Park, along the Leeds Liverpool Canal towpath and then to the Hirst Wood Nature Reserve followed by an optional visit to the Saltaire Music Festival with live acts in Roberts Park. There will then be a chance to see the world renowned paintings by David Hockney, entry to Salts Mill and Gallery is free.  It is a circular walk mainly on the canal towpath and is mainly flat, the walk will end back in Saltaire.

There is a train strike that day ....however Saltaire is a short five minute walk from Shipley and you can easily get the bus to there.  You can get the X6 (30 mins) or 72 bus (40 min journey) from the Leeds bus station to the Bradford Interchange and then get a bus from there to Shipley such as 675  (takes 30 mins) or the 614 though this leaves from Hall Ings a one minute walk away.   On the bus get the new £4.50 West Yorkshire Metro day bus ticket pay by card or cash - covers every West Yorks bus all day.  I am happy to give people a lift in my car from Leeds, please do comment if you can give a lift too.   Bus times are at www.wymetro.com
