We will be running bouldering sessions roughly every other Monday evening in Wokingham. If you can't make this event, check out future events!
Bouldering centres offer the challenges of climbing without the hassle of rope work or harnesses! It's a fun way to stay fit, you'll quickly begin to develop arm, back, finger and core strength as a result of the many reaches and holds that are repeated through to the completion of a climb. It’s also a great opportunity to refine your technique and improve any other roped climbing you undertake. It’s a great full-body workout!
You do NOT need to be strong; you do not need to be fit; you can even do it if you are frightened of heights (the walls aren't that high!). If you're not sure, message the event leader and have a chat. You'll probably find that it is great to give it a go.
Oakwood Climbing Centre is a brand new bouldering centre based at the Oakwood Outdoor Centre between Wokingham and Bracknell. The centre comprises of one of the longest competition walls in the UK, the Octa Island and a fantastic topout boulder, so you can practise your manteling skills!
The centre is very friendly and the staff are great and always willing to give tips. The cafe is now open and serves a great range of food and drinks. There are also energy snacks available at reception. There is also a water fountain, changing facilities and toilets as you would expect. Shoes can be hired on site if needed.
The cost to climb is £10. To save time, you can complete the pre-registration form here: http://www.oakwoodclimbingcentre.com/pre-registration/
The event is open to all abilities, but please contact me if you are new to bouldering so that I can ensure that there is enough supervision for new climbers.

What to bring
You don't need much equipment for bouldering at all, which is another part of its appeal. The only specialist kit you will need are (rock) climbing shoes which can be hired from the centre if you haven't got your own.
It is best to wear either shorts, combats or tracksuit bottoms. No jeans or any form of trouser which hampers movement. A t-shirt or vest is also suitable.
If you have any OutdoorLads branded clothing then please try and wear this as it will give the group a good level of visibility.
Any jewellery such as rings, watches, chains or bangles should be removed before beginning the session to prevent injury.
Food & drink
There is an on site cafe providing a good range of food and drinks. Energy snacks can also be purchased at reception. There is a water fountain in the main hall. Please note that food and drinks are not allowed onto the bouldering mats.
