Porter and Limb Brooks - nature without leaving the city!

A classic walk in Sheffield. There aren't many cities in the UK with such stunning nature within city bounds. This walk of around 7-8 miles showcases some of the best valleys on Steel City's western edge.
The Porter Brook - once home to 20 mills - is today a superb green corridor that runs through a constantly changing landscape. We ascend alongside the babbling brook to reach the moors around Ringinglow, with big views across the city of Sheffield and the Peak District. From open country, our walk then descends the Limb Valley into Whirlowbrook Park with its Edwardian country house (now a conference/wedding venue) perched on an elevated terrace. At this point, we'll cross fields and lanes to return to our starting point, a location where we can pop into a pub for a liquid reviver.

What to bring
Water: Bring a suitable amount of water, bring more if it’s a warm day.
Medicines: If you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Rucksack: A small backpack or similar.
Footwear: Although this is not a mountain walk, sturdy walking shoes are recommended, as are proper walking socks as they'll keep your feet dry and prevent blisters. Sturdy trainers will also be fine. There could be muddy patches if there has been rain recently.
Clothing: Dress for the weather, and if it’s cold or wet bring extra layers so you can adapt as we progress. Waterproofs are recommended for wet days, and if it’s wet try to avoid wearing jeans which will become heavy and cold.
Hat or cap: Hats will keep you warm and protect you from the wind. Essential in Winter.
Sunglasses: For any sunny day, even in winter.
Sun cream: Can be useful even on cloudy days.
Snacks: Bring snacks to keep you going through. As it’s a short walk we won’t be stopping for lunch but bring what you need.
Food & drink
Please bring a packed lunch. We won't stop en-route for provisions, though we may pass a number of cafes.
For those that want to, we will stop by at a pub at the end of the hike.
