NOTICE TO ATTENDEES: We've been informed that the campsite is closed on Friday night due to forecast high winds. This includes tents, pods, and motorhomes. We intend to still camp Saturday night and to stay at YHA Ambleside on Friday night, however you will need to book direct with the YHA for your place. Refunds will be issued next week for the Friday night. Please see your on-site messages for more information.
OutdoorLads' first ever event was a camp at Great Langdale in the Lake District and consequently every year we have used our annual Winter Camp to celebrate the group's birthday.
OutdoorLads Winter Camp is a unique event and one of the most popular in our event calendar. Great Langdale is situated in the heart of the Lake District surrounded by stunning landscape and on the doorstep of some of the most iconic walks the country has to offer.
Join us at the Great Langdale National Trust campsite to enjoy the classic mountains which surround it and the great facilities the site provides (some of the best campsite showers we have experienced!).
This event page is for spaces in the camping pods. If you propose to camp in a tent, please sign up on the following page instead: Traditional tent camping is also available here, if you are hardy enough!
Please book onto one, but not both, of these related events.
What to bring
If you are camping you will obviously need a tent. It does not need to be big or expensive, but it will need to withstand wind and rain, so some of the cheapest tents might be best avoided. For advice, please contact the event leader.
Whether you are staying in a tent or a pod you will need a sleeping bag. Depending on its thickness, you may also require blankets to keep you extra warm, as temperatures at this time of year can be extremely low. A mat to go beneath you is essential, as much cold can come from the ground.
If you are planning to cook any of your own food (or even just make tea) you will need a stove, pots, plates, cuttlery etc. Again, these needn't be expensive or fancy. The event leader will happily give advie if asked.
For your saturday activity you will need suitable warm and waterproof clothing, a rucksack, water bottle etc. Precise equipment or clothing may depend on which activity you choose to take part in.
Food & drink
Please note that no food or drink is included in the event price.
As on all our camping events, you are always free to prepare your own food at the site if you wish. Certainly on the Friday night that option tends to be popular, or lads make their own arrangements to eat at one of the two nearby pubs.
For the Saturday walk, please ensure you have a packed lunch, snacks, water and a hot drink.
On the Saturday night, it's a popular option to visit one of the local pubs for dinner. Details will be confirmed closer to the time.
