Osmotherly Day Walk - North Yorkshire Moors

This walk takes in great views around the picturesque village of Osmotherley, with lake, river, forest, and moorland vistas. After gathering at the car park, we’ll descend to Cod Beck reservoir then head up through the forest to High Lane, offering great moorland views. We’ll continue past Solomon’s Temple and Chequers (now a house but once an Inn, the old sign now decorates the exterior of the building). We’ll then descend to the river and reservoirs at Oak Dale (watch out for the pheasants…..just think Jurassic Park with very small vegetarian Velociraptors!). After a short ascent through the trees we’ll then descend and make our way along the river at Middlestye bank into the village.
After a stop in Osmotherley, we’ll head up to Lady’s Chapel. Built by Carthusian Monks in the 15th Century, it’s a great place to stop to absorb the tranquillity with views through the vegetation across to the eastern Yorkshire Dales! We’ll then continue along the Cleveland Way, again with views across to the Dales and Roseberry Topping as we wind round to the northern extent of the North Yorkshire moors.
We’ll then descend along the bridleway at Swinestye Hill back to Cod Beck Reservoir and the car park……hoping the ice cream van is there….and the coffee/tea van if that’s your thing after a long walk!”
