🏕️ The Weekend

Join us for a fantastic OutdoorLads camping weekend in one of England’s quietest and most beautiful upland areas – the North Pennines AONB. We’ll be staying at the peaceful campsite just outside the picturesque village of Dufton, surrounded by open countryside and dramatic fells.

Saturday’s main event is a classic Pennine hike up Dufton Pike and the jaw-dropping glacial valley of High Cup Nick, followed by a hearty group pub dinner in the village. On Sunday, we’ll wind things down with an optional low-level circular walk to help stretch the legs and soak in a bit more of this wild landscape before heading home.

🥾 Saturday Walk – Dufton Pike & High Cup Nick

We’ll head out straight from the campsite, summiting Dufton Pike for panoramic views, before looping around to follow part of the Pennine Way to High Cup Nick – one of the most iconic geological features in the country. It’s a dramatic U-shaped valley carved by glacial erosion, and the views from the edge are truly breathtaking.

Walk details:

  • Distance: ~17km
  • Ascent: ~700m
  • Duration: 6–7 hours
  • Grade: Moderate
  • Terrain: Open moorland, hill paths, steep ascents, and remote countryside

🍻 Saturday Evening – Pub Dinner at the Stag Inn

After a day in the hills, we’ll head into the village for a group dinner at The Stag Inn, Dufton’s cosy and welcoming pub just a 10-minute walk from the campsite.

They offer great local ales, real fires, and hearty food – the perfect way to round off a day outdoors. We’ll book a table for the group and circulate the menu in advance.

(Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available. Bring cash or card to pay on the night.)

🥾 Sunday – Optional Short Walk: Dufton Ghyll & Flakebridge Wood

If you’re not in a rush to leave on Sunday, join us for a gentle circular walk exploring Dufton Ghyll and Flakebridge Wood, passing through ancient woodland, wildflower meadows, and peaceful rural lanes.

Walk details:

  • Distance: ~6km
  • Ascent: minimal
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Grade: Easy
  • Terrain: Woodland paths, bridleways, and field edges

It’s a relaxed way to round off the weekend – ideal for chatting, birdwatching, and grabbing a few last photos of this magical part of the world.

🏕️ Campsite

This quiet, friendly campsite offers:

  • Grass pitches away from the main site on a separate field just for us!
  • Toilet on our field & clean shower block a few minutes walk on the main site
  • Drinking water taps
  • Short walk into the village

Bring your own tent, sleeping gear, and cooking kit (if not using the pub for meals). We’ll coordinate lift shares and gear loans where needed – don’t hesitate to ask if you’re new to camping.
