We will be start from Monmouth and make our way upto the banks of the River Wye and follow it north then east. Along the way we'll pass the country house estate Wyastone Leys (behind which the Forestry Commission planted, in 1953, a pattern of trees with contrasting foliage in the shape of the letters ER, to mark the Coronation of Elizabeth II); and Seven Sisters Rocks until we reach the suspension foot bridge at The Biblins.
From here, we'll cross the river and head up into Highmeadow Woods. On our way in, the route will pass alongside Lady Park Wood; established in 1944, this nature reserve is totally unmanaged is considered one of the most important sites for woodland conservation in the country.
The penultimate stop on the walk will be to The Kymin, a hill that overlooks Monmouth and the surrounding countryside. The site contains the Naval Temple and the Roundhouse, built at the start of the 19th Century. It was claimed that nine counties could be seen from the roof of the Roundhouse. After a wander around, we will descend back into Monmouth.
