Marsden Imbolc Festival

Imbolc is an ancient pagan festival marking the progression of the seasons, traditionally held at the mid point between the Winter solstice and the Spring equinox, Marsden hold theirs on the first Saturday of February.
The event starts with a torchlit procession from the old good yard at Marsden station to the Standege Tunnel visitor centre, members of the public are welcome to bring their own lanters with them. On arrival there is a display of fire juggling, followed by a symbolic battle between Jack Frost and the Green Man, then a firework display for the victor. After this the torchlit procession heads back to the station. This all makes for a wonderfully atmospheric evening, with a friendly buzz all around the town.
We will meet up at The Railway pub, opposite the train station, from 6.00pm onwards (be advised that the pub can get very busy for this event). At about 6.45 we will head over to the old goods yard, ready for the procession to begin at 7.00pm. Once the procession gets back into town we can have a few more drinks in one of the pubs in the town centre before heading home.
This is an expensive event to run, partly due to insurance costs, and the organisers would appreciate a donation towards these costs
