👟 Step into Manchester’s Queer History!

Join OutdoorLads as we take part in a special LGBTQ+ walking tour through the heart of Manchester, hosted by local playwright and guide Chris Hoyle. As part of SCENE Manchester LGBTQ+ Film Festival and in celebration of Manchester Pride Festival, this is your chance to learn about the people, places, and moments that have shaped queer life in the city.

Ever spotted the little rainbow tiles across the city and wondered what they mean? This walking tour reveals their story — and many more.

From Victorian drag balls to the founding of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality, the rise of Canal Street, and the ongoing fight for equality, Manchester’s LGBTQ+ history is long, proud and defiant. Chris Hoyle, via his platform What’s The Story MCR?, brings these stories to life with passion, humour and heart.

Although OutdoorLads social events are free, this walking tour requires a £10 ticket (plus booking fee) — with all profits supporting LGBTQ+ community groups and booking fees donated to Manchester Pride Charity. Click here to book your ticket. We'll meet from 12:30pm ready for the tour to start at 1pm.

For those interested, there’ll be an optional chance to stay on after the tour and enjoy a relaxed Sunday lunch together at a nearby venue. It’s a great opportunity to chat about what we’ve learned, connect with others, and soak up more of Manchester’s vibrant LGBTQ+ spirit in good company.

Please note: This event is not exclusive to OutdoorLads and is open to the public as part of the wider SCENE Manchester LGBTQ+ Festival. I've initially set the OutdoorLads group capacity to 10 places as we don’t have full confirmation of the tour’s overall capacity. However, if tickets are still available via Skiddle, members are welcome to book independently and join the OutdoorLads waitlist. We’ll be happy to increase this event to accommodate members who have booked a ticket where possible.

If you're new to OutdoorLads then come along, grab a drink, find a friendly face and say hello! It's also the perfect opportunity for members to make friends and catch up with others, and discuss what’s new and the upcoming events.

Socials are a great event for both new and existing members. If you are in any way uncertain about joining OutdoorLads or are concerned about fitness/ability or whether OutdoorLads is for you, then do come along, have a drink with us and see why members have made friends through OutdoorLads.

If you have any questions, please do send the event leader a message :-)
