Get out on the first weekend after New Year and join Andrew on this walk along the Kennet and Avon canal towpath from Bath to Bradford-on-Avon. This is a very scenic canal route with a lot of history and we will pass over the Dundas Aquaduct which takes the canal over the River Avon and also the equally impressive Avoncliff Aquaduct.
This is a linear walk which means that our route will start at Bath Spa Railway Station and end in Bradford-on-Avon. People will therefore need to either park in Bradford-on-Avon and get the train to the starting point or get a train at the end of the walk back to their onward destinations.
What to bring
Water: bring at least a litre
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Rucksack: or any other bag
Footwear: hiking boots will be essential -( the towpath can be very muddy in winter so your new trainers that santa bought will not be a great choice! -Ed)
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
Trousers: ideally not jeans which become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry and on warm days shorts are OK
Waterproof jacket: breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
Hat or cap: stay warm in winter and shaded in summer
Sunglasses: for any sunny day, even in winter
Sun cream: can be useful even on cloudy days
Snacks: bring biscuits, energy bars, gels, bananas, chocolate or dried fruit for example and put them somewhere easy to get hold of
Food & drink
Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.
We may head to a pub in Bradford-on-Avon before heading home. There is also a tea shop along the way that we may be able to stop at if it's open and time permitting.
