Come with us to enjoy a visit to the gardens of Goddards, a "hidden gem" National Trust historic mansion.
We will meet at York train station outside WH Smith's, near the station entrance, for the one and half mile flat walk to Goddards,.
If you are a National Trust member, then obviously your admission is already free. The entrance fee is £7.50, paid by card or cash on arrival.
If you are driving, there is free parking on Cherry Lane (4 minutes walk from Goddards)' Additional free parking on the Knavesmire Road (20 minutes walk). We will be arriving at Goddards at noon. Please let the event leader know if you are planning to join the group at Goddards, rather than the station,
After a flat 1.5 mile leisurely walk from the city centre we will take time exploring the garden ‘rooms’ of the former home of the Terry family (think Chocolate Orange, or the newest mint creation). Discover fragrant borders, wildlife areas, vegetable garden and the glasshouse. Soak up the sunshine on the terrace or on a garden bench enjoying the view with your takeaway refreshments.
The Terry factory clock tower can be seen from the paddock orchard overlooking the racecourse linking the chocolate heritage of York and the Terry family from their factory to their home.
After a coffee and light snack from the kiosk, and time to see the gardens , will walk the 1.5 miles back to the city centre.
