The Forest of Bowland was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1964. The AONB covers much of north-east Lancashire, with a small part in North Yorkshire. The name "forest" is used in its traditional sense of "royal hunting ground" and there are plenty of pheasants, grouse and other game birds to be seen. This series of walks aims to explore the area.
On this walk, we'll set off from the village of Dunsop Bridge and follow the course of Hareden Brook as we climb up onto Hareden Fell. After a bit of 'off-roading' over open access land, we'll meet up with Bleadale Water and continue to follow that up onto the tops. From there, we'll cross over to the trig point at Totridge before dropping down into the valley and back to Dunsop Bridge.
This is the third walk in the series exploring the Forest of Bowland and is longer and more challenging than the first two. You'll need a good level of fitness and be prepared to cross some potentially boggy ground!

What to bring
If you're unsure what to wear or bring for a day walk, see the kit list in the About Us > My First Event section of the website.
If you have gaiters it's a good idea to wear those as paths are likely to be muddy.
Food & drink
You'll need to bring a packed lunch/snacks and enough fluids to keep you hydrated during the walk (recommended 1-2 litres of water).
There is a tearoom in Dunsop Bridge that we'll call into at the end of the walk if we get back in time!
