Something for everyone on this worthy winner of a top 100 place on Britain's Favourite Walks:

  • Starting by the truly awe inspiring New Lanark Mills, a World Heritage site
  • Taking in 4 hugely impressive sets of waterfalls, from peaceful to roaring
  • Walking through ancient oak and mixed woodland with the Clyde river gorge close by
  • Taking in the UK's oldest hydro electric system
  • Passing castle ruins for a bit of history
  • And for those who think it might be a bit too easy, there is 500m of ascent (and decent) to make on the 11km loop (well, for impressive falls, you need impressive height!)
  • All this plus starting late enough that those who like a lie in on Sunday can still make it!

A bit of a classic walk, suitable for beginners but with enough bite to attract the fitness crowd.

Bring a packed lunch and we'll find somewhere to stop for it near one of the falls. Don't forget water too.

Best to bring waterproofs, just in case. Boots would be best to cope with any muddy patches on the path but this is probably one of the few walks where you could get away with grippy walking shoes or trainers (just).

Public transport is not great for this one, we will try to support those without transport by car sharing.
