We have quite a unique hostel event for you here, set on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, this former World War 1 hut was converted to a hostel in the 1930's and has remained as such to this present day. Set in Bridford Woods it set quite steeply against the valley hill which at the bottom has the River Teigh running through complete with its own set of stepping stones (I feel a photo opportunity arises here).
The event runs from 17:00hrs on Friday 4th August through to 14:00hrs on Sunday, 6th August 2017.
HOSTEL
The hostel comprises of 20 bed's which breaks down into the following 5 bedrooms;
· 1 x Room (Sleeps 4)
· 1 x Room (Sleeps 6)
· 2 x Rooms (Sleeps 4)
· 1 x Room (Sleeps 2)
The rooms all have washbasins and a small amount of hanging space.
We have available to use a BBQ and 2 fire pits as well so being August one would expect some decent weather. There is a good amount of outdoor space as well as a couple of picnic tables. Inside the hostel there is a fully equipped self-catering kitchen, comfy cozy communal lounge/dinner along with a separate wet & drying room.
The hostel is also fitted with free WI-FI.
ANY QUESTIONS?
Being a relatively small capacity event it does have the advantage of being not quite as daunting as some of the larger events, so is ideal for those of you who are new to ODL or want to try a hostel event. However, everyone is welcome and I will do my best to ensure your weekend is memorable (for the right reasons of course) and thoroughly enjoyable.
There is lots of information on all the tabs so please do view this as will answer many of your questions and contains lots of helpful information and tips to making your weekend amazing!
I hope that this event page answers most of any burning questions that you may have, however if you do have any questions then do please feel free to ask them.
Further information will be released closer to the time via messages to wet your appetite and give you a taste further of what is to be expected over the weekend for entertainment and the more finer details.
What to bring
If it’s your first OutdoorLads event or you are trying something for the first time and you’re unsure what kit you’ll need - don’t worry – the following should help.
Do refer to the kit list for what to bring if you haven't attended a hostel event before, this does give a good idea of what your need. If you have any questions, then do message the event leader who can give you further guidance.
This is only a guide - you will need to consider the weather forecast and the activity as described.
You should consider bringing:
· Towel
· Shampoo
· Washing gear (as you would for a hotel)
· Ear plugs
· Clothes to relax in at the hostel during the evenings
· Items for the buffet on Friday evening
· Packed lunch for Saturday
· Drink (alcoholic or not) for the weekend
· 2 or 3-way power adapter
· Phone charger
· Day walking gear
· Boots
· Walking trousers, not jeans
· Walking Top
· Waterproofs
· Rucksack
· Walking poles (if you use them)
· Couple of Towels (One old towel)
· Drinks Flask/Container
· Sunscreen Protection
· Torch
The beauty about a hostel is most of what you need is provided already however there are still some essential items of kit that you will need to bring with you;
The hostel will provide bedding and linen however I would recommend bring an extra pillow from home if you do require more than one pillow to get a good night sleep.
Following on from that, 20 blokes sharing rooms does result in a certain level of noise so if you are a light sleeper ear plugs maybe a worthwhile investment and now come in various forms for a couple of quid.
Food & drink
During the event the following meals will be provided for you and is included within your event cost which are both Saturday & Sunday Breakfasts & Saturday Evening meal.
On Friday evening, we will from 19:00hrs be having an ODL style BBQ we will have one available to use. Please bring something to BBQ perhaps for 2-3 People and side this could be savory or sweet.
Saturday & Sunday Breakfasts will have a small selection of cereals on offer, porridge, fruit juices & toast. We will also be doing a cooked breakfast which will include, Sausages, Bacon, Baked Beans and Eggs. On Friday & Saturday evenings I shall be gauging requirements for cooked breakfasts so any advance notifications are very welcome.
Please bring a packed lunch with you for Saturday's walk as you will need one to keep you going for the walk. A pre-warning there is no-where to buy any provisions for this at the start of the walk.
Throughout the weekend included in your event cost we will be supplying, tea, coffee, milk, sugar and a small choice of squash cordials
