An Evening with the Sheffield Symphony Orchestra

Join us for an evening of culture at All Saints Church Ecclesall with the Sheffield Symphony Orchestra, featuring our very own Andy Ling on the viola.
Composed in 1880 by Borodin, ‘In the Steppes of Central Asia’ is a symphonic poem commissioned by Alexander II of Russia. A piece of easy-listening, you will be able to hear the Russian Troops and Central Asians travelling across the The Eurasian Steppe with themes for both entities present throughout.
Forsyths Viola Concerto in G-minor shows off the rarely seen, and sometimes rarely heard, depth and timbre of the instrument many mistake to be a violin! Consisting of three movements, the piece demonstrates the versatility of the instrument whilst being in the influences of the Romantic era.
Moving to Dvorak to end this concert of epic pieces, Symphony No. 9 (‘From the New World’). You may not be familiar with the first movement, though most will recognise the theme from the second movement as “the Hovis advert music” from 1973!
Tickets will be available online from a few weeks before the concert or can be purchased on the door. If you have signed up for this event, the event leader will let you know when tickets become available. The ticket price is expected to be around £12.
We will go for a drink at a nearby pub after the concert.
