Join OutdoorLads this Easter in some of England's finest and wildest landscapes in Upper Teesdale, County Durham. This is a three night stay which gives us ample time to explore some of the highlights of this area, including the thundering High Force (waterfall) on the River Tees, Cauldron Snout (another waterfall) also on the Tees, Cow Green Reservoir on the Cumbria Durham border, all of which are in amazing countryside.
There are other options which include leisure and cultural activities including the amazing Bowes Museum which could look easily at home in Paris, Egglestone Hall and Gardens, Raby Castle and more.
Alternatively, just chilling out and switching off from busy life in the hostel is always an option. Our YHA is a small, rural hostel located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in County Durham. Standing 385m above sea level, the hostel usually provides accommodation to a variety of visitors including walkers, cyclists, canoeists, bird watchers, flower spotters, school and youth groups, and families. Easter 2024 is reserved for our own OutdoorLads family!!!
ACCESS STATEMENT: The hostel has a full access statement which can be provided on request. Accommodation includes one en-suite room that sleeps up to 5 people. It includes 2 sets of bunk beds and a single bed. This room, according to the YHA, has disabled access with a disability compliant bathroom. Priority for this room will be given to disabled members who should notify the event leaders in advance. If more specific information is required, message the event leader.

What to bring
All bedding is provided but bring your towel, toiletries, extra pillow if needed, comfy slippers etc!
Please be mindful that we could be experiencing late winter or warm spring conditions, so plan accordingly. Full waterproofs are a must, but here's the usual kit list:
Water bottles: bring capacity for at least two litres
Medicines: your medicines for personal use
Day rucksack: typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely
Boots: waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking, trainers are OK if the ground is dry and there’s little chance of rain
Gaiters: recommended for wet weather or boggy conditions
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
Trousers: ideally no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry and on warm days shorts are OK
Waterproof jacket: essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
Gloves: Windproof, or better still, waterproof gloves are the best choice, bring a spare pair if expecting rain
Hat or cap: stay warm in winter and shaded in summer
Sunglasses: for any sunny day, even in winter
Sun cream: can be useful even on cloudy and winter days
Snacks: bring biscuits, energy bars, gels, bananas, chocolate or dried fruit for example and put them somewhere easy to get hold of
Lunch: bring a packed lunch for both days
Food & drink
All breakfasts and two evening meals are included, as are tea, coffee. Please bring a contribution to the Friday night (Good Friday) buffet - home made is always a winner, but far from compulsory! You will need to bring your own drinks and snacks, plus food for lunches on the walks. There is a pub about half a mile away, but the nearest shops are likely to be in Middleton-in-Teesdale to the south and Alston to the North.
