Pasg Hapus - Happy Easter in Welsh! Join the Easter Bunny (or a reasonable facsimile thereof - perhaps a bit "Dobby" looking...) in wildly beautiful west Wales, for a long weekend of hiking, relaxing or other possible activities on the National Trust-owned Stackpole Estate in Pembrokeshire.
Surrounded by secluded, white sandy beaches such as the delightful Barafundle Bay and Freshwater West (the site of Dobby's Cottage - from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets); the teeming woods and nature reserve of Bosherston Lilyponds; mystical St. Govan's Chapel, perched on the cliffs above the pounding Atlantic; and the action packed Pembroke Peninsula (including iconic Tenby Harbour) - this is an OutdoorLads family holiday that will leave you wishing for more than just 3 nights!
A variety of walks will be on offer during this holiday weekend; we might venture on this 11.8km Eight Arch Bridge trek; this slightly shorter (9.42km) Barafundle Bay loop; or (venturing slightly further afield) this 18.2km West Angle Bay circular from Rhoscrowther (taking in Dobby's Cottage and gravesite).
As well as the above walks, there could be some alternative activities through the weekend.
Sea Kayaking is now live and can be booked here!
For heritage lovers, we might be able to do a 'castle crawl' taking in Pembroke (£9.00) Manorbier (£6.50) and Carew Castle (£7.00).
So join us and #GetOutMore in South Wales this Easter! This is a dog-friendly event (maximum 2 well-behaved canines...!) so please email supoort@outdoorlads.com to register your pooch!
I have also created this carpool page, as well as this Telegram chat group!
There is one 3-bed fully accessible room on the ground floor, along with showers, wc's and all communal areas. Bedrooms upstairs consist of four 1-bed, three 3-bed, four 4-bed and one 6-bed rooms, along with showers; all wc's are on the ground floor.
OUTDOORLADS FOUNDATION Fancy coming along but having a difficult time of it (for whatever reason), and/or finding it hard to justify the expense? Apply for a place on this event through the OutdoorLads Foundation! Nobody apart from staff members will know and we don't need lots of financial info from you either. To apply through the Foundation, you'll need to complete a very short form, which can be found along with more information here. Please note that your application will ONLY be seen by the ODL office; even the leaders won't know who the Foundation has helped. Your application is completely confidential!
Payment by Instalments
Outdoorlads appreciates that not everyone may be able to pay for our events in one lump sum. If you are affected by this, please contact our office team at support@outdoorlads.com who may be able to assist in taking payments for the event in instalments. Please note the final instalment will need to be made at least one month prior to the event to guarantee your place.
IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.

What to bring
Bedding is NOT provided, so you will need to bring a sleeping bag or sheet and duvet, andyour own towel, and of course clothing, wash kit etc for the weekend.
Should you need any of the items below, remember that ODL members get a discount at Cotswold Outdoors, Berghaus and Snow + Rock
Boots: As we will be hiking along the Welsh coast, full hiking boots are a better option than mid-ankle hiking shoes. Waterproof and breathable are the best options.
Socks: Merino wool socks provide the best moisture-wicking but almost any decent walking sock from an outdoor shop or even good quality cotton or wool socks will provide a number of affordable "quick-dry" options.
Walking Trousers: There are several styles of affordable walking trousers. It is always worth trying them on to make sure they fit comfortably, a webbing style belt is often useful, as well as zippable pockets and should be water-repellent.
Waterproof Trousers: As above, many outdoor shops all stock an excellent selection of waterproof trousers. It is recommended that you have a pair just in case the weather turns.
Base Layer: A breathable base layer should be chosen in order to let sweat escape from the body. This could be a cheaper sports top or you could go top of the range with a merino top. Cotton t-shirts are best avoided as they can become damp and uncomfortable as our bodies heat up when hiking.
Other Layers: On top of your base layer, you can have a variety of options such as a micro fleece, a fleece jacket or a rugby/sports top. Having one or two additional layers gives you flexibility when the weather is changeable – the more layers, the more flexible you can be in adapting to the weather.
Waterproof Jacket: Good waterproof jackets can range from £30 to over £300! At a minimum, the jacket should have fully taped seams, an adjustable hem, elastic cuffs and at least 1 inside pocket.
Hat: A good hat (that covers your ears) like a wool beany provides warmth and wicking properties.
Gloves: As it will be late winter / early spring a good pair of (preferably) water- and wind-proof gloves is an essential piece of kit.
Rucksack: For day walks a 20-30 litre capacity rucksack should be sufficient for carrying the essentials. Ideally it should have padded waist straps, several outside pockets and a rain cover.
Map & Compass: If you want to learn to be a leader or you just like to know where you are, then you can bring a map that covers the area - Ordinance Survey Map 36 is the best for the area. It is best to bring your map either in a map case or purchase maps which are waterproof.
Food & drink
Good Friday arrival meal: We will have the traditional ODL arrival night buffet! Please bring enough for 2 or 3 people and think "outside the box"! Instead of quiche and pizza think of something that can be easily carried for lunch Saturday and Sunday out on hikes (if there are any leftovers!!)
Saturday breakfast: In addition to the standard breakfast offerings, we will plan on something like pancakes, eggy bread, or similar.
Saturday lunch: This is not provided - you should plan to bring your own, and maybe it could be supplemented with leftovers from last night.
Saturday dinner: Fajitas for everyone!!!! This will include chicken, veggies, possibly beef, shrimp and all the fixings!!
Easter Sunday breakfast: Hot cross buns, fresh mixed fruit salad and something a bit more substantial will be on offer, along with all the regular items.
Easter Sunday lunch: This will be the same as yesterday's lunch! Out on hikes or at the hostel.
Easter Sunday dinner: This will be more formalised as we get closer but will most likely be a traditional Easter ham and all the trimmings!
Monday breakfast: depending on the "required" departure time, a nice breakfast will be provided
Tea and coffee, included in the event cost, will be available throughout the weekend
Please note that there are NO shops in the area!! There is a small Spar at a petrol station in Lamphey, small Morrison's Daily, Co-op and a Londis In Pembroke; the closest "large" stores (Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and Asda) are in Pembroke Dock, which is a 30 minute drive from the hostel.
