Join us for this circuit of the moors above Denshaw Village, culminating in a walk along the Tame Valley Way back to the centre of Denshaw.
From the centre of Denshaw we will head up the Huddersfield Road before crossing the fledgling River Tame then up to Ox Hey Farm and across the fields to Heights Farm. From here we will head up Broad Lane and Moor Lane before following the Pennine Bridleway across Dowry Castle Hill, passing the remains of Dowry Castle. A Victorian mansion built by the brewer John Gartside in 1867, Dowry Castle was bought by Oldham Corporation in 1894, following the construction of the nearby reservoirs between 1876 and 1883, and sold for demolition in 1897.
We will then head around Lurden Top and past Readycon Dean Reservoir, across the moor and over Ripponden Road to pass Piethorne and Rooden reservoirs. From here we will follow the eastern edge of Compton Moor before crossing the Oldham Road and heading down into the Upper Tame Valley to follow the Tame Valley Way back into Denshaw.
