Dartmoor Weekend in a WW1 Hut
16 people attending
0 places left
Come and join OutdoorLads in a converted WW1 hut set in secluded native woodland on the eastern edge of Dartmoor. Friday evening will be a chance to relax, settle in and orientate yourself within the hostel while Saturday is a day to get out and enjoy the Dartmoor national park.
I'm not totally sure on the plans for Saturday daytime, but will most likely involve a couple of day walks (a short and long route) and there's the chance to get out and enjoy some outdoor climbing in the area. Or, if you're just looking for some time to wind-down and relax, you will be more than welcome to relax back at the hostel and maybe read a book in the neighbouring woodlands. All activities will be finished in time to get back to the hostel ready for dinner to be served Saturday evening.
Just for reference, here's a link to one of the day walk pages for the Saturday, but if you're signed up to the hostel weekend, please don't sign up to this day walk page. This has been set up mainly for people, who aren't on the hostel event, but wish to join in the Saturday walk.
Finally everyone will be welcome to enjoy a Sunday breakfast before packing up and making our ways home, potentially via a coffee house somewhere before going our separate ways.
What to bring
So... some points on what to bring:
About the hostel:
- All bedding is provided, but please feel free to bring your own if you wish.
- Towels are NOT provided
- Toiletries are NOT provided
About the activities:
Although we will be visiting towards the start of the summer months, Dartmoor's weather is known to change at the drop of a hat, so please do remember to bring those all-important waterproof jackets and trousers.
If you're planning to join in some day walks, please remember to bring some sturdy boots, ideally with some decent ankle support.
For outdoor sport climbing, we will be able to supply some equipment (a few harnesses, ropes and helmets and quickdraws), but if you are able to bring your own equipment, please do so as this will allow more people to enjoy a day of getting out onto the rocks in the area. Climbing shoes will not be provided, though you are likely to scale some easier climbs in trainers.
Food & drink
The Friday evening meal will be the usual affair of a buffet meal, for which attendees are invited to bring a dish.
Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, along with Saturday dinner, will be provided, leaving everyone only Saturday lunch to look consider. Please bear in mind the activity you're likely to join during Saturday as this will likely affect your lunch requirements for the day.
