This is an event for all, even if you have never sat in one of these boats before, as an introduction to rowing. This event has been supported by Scottish Rowing so is free to members!
This event is co-organised with a fellow ODL member (Steve - TheOarfulTruth) who is also a rowing coach, and there will be other Scottish Rowing coaches too so you will be fully supervised. The boats will have stabilisers (which can be removed if requested) so the risk of falling in will be minimised. The event is taking place in the Firhill Basin (Glasgow) so you won't get swept away. And don't be put off by any equipment you think you might need, it's only some suitable clothing - see the kit list below.
It's a lot of fun, I am sure you will agree in the end. Yep it's the sport where you face backwards to go forwards!
Afterwards, once everyone has had enough, we will head to a café for a cuppa.
What to bring
This event, being on the water, does carry a risk of getting wet!!
Bring a change of dry clothes just in case you do fall in and a towel too.
Make sure that for the boat, your clothes are NOT baggy but close fitting (Lycra may not be your most desired choice but works best) and importantly will keep you warm and relatively dry on the water. We don't want it to get in the way of your rowing action.
Food & drink
Bring some snacks and some drink to stay hydrated
