A walk through three picturesque Derbyshire villages, climbing steps, traversing fields, scaling quarry walls and managing a quiet pint of ale on the way. This walk will leave the civilisation of Duffield behind and venture on through field and valley onto the Midshire's way-an ancient pathway. We will eventually meet a former railway line which passes through Coxbench. Later we will pass under a modern dual carriage way en route to Drum Hill camp site and look down on the village of Little Eaton. As we pass by lots of disused quarries we will have outstanding views across to Nottinghamshire and beyond. On our return journey we will have time to stop in a local hostelry to sample their beer and hopefully still manage to walk home along the banks of the Derwent River.
What to bring
I expect it will be pretty wet under foot and the ground is very uneven in places. Please wear stout walking boots with thick socks and good ankle support. Bring waterproof trousers and a good breathable coat just in case the weather turns.
Food & drink
Please bring a hot drink as well as plenty of water. We will have the opportunity to stop at several watering holes along the way. Please bring a packed lunch. We do pass the odd shop en route. It is usually wise to bring snacks for the journey.
