Campfires and Cornfields: Lazy Late Summer in The Cotswolds
9 people attending
21 places left
Pure English countryside, posh breakfasts, a catered Saturday BBQ, roaring campfires and all in a completely secluded private woodland. This is a unique location in the heart of the best the Cotswolds has to offer.
Nestled in the unspoilt Evenlode Valley, close to Burford and a stone’s throw from Stow, our home for an extended weekend (THREE NIGHTS starting Thursday) will be a woodland camp exclusive to OutdoorLads on a private estate at the invitation of the owners.
The camping is in our own private glade and you will be free to pitch wherever takes your fancy. Each night we will have a campfire and gather at the fire circle to share stories and make new friends, or reacquaint ourselves with old ones.
Thursday night will be an orientation evening, getting to know the estate and the surroundings.
On Friday there will be canoeing at Lechlade - a 20-minute drive away on the Upper Reaches of the River Thames, or a long country walk starting directly from the campsite.
Saturday will see us head out for more serious walking… once again directly from camp and taking in some of the most glorious rolling countryside in England, returning to camp for relaxation before our catered BBQ on Saturday night, which is included in the event price.
On Sunday there will be the opportunity to visit the private gardens of the estate house itself.
There is also a farm shop and café where you are invited to have breakfast and to relax for a drink or a meal at any time during your stay (during opening hours 9am – 4pm)
We do so hope you can join us for this fabulous chance to enjoy a seriously chilled late summer vibe in a very relaxing place indeed.
Please note that this is not a commercial campsite and therefore there are no formal facilities except two gay portaloos which we will be providing for the duration of our stay. There are no showers on site, so make do with an old-skool wash!
Dogs: This event is not suitable for dogs.

What to bring
**Things you must bring with you:**
Tent: we will be pitching in a sheltered glade on low ground so a normal campsite tent should be perfectly adequate. A rubber mallet can be useful to get pegs into dry or hard ground.
Sleeping gear inc. sleeping bag, sleeping pad or air mattress, pillow.
Lights inc. torch or headlamp; a lantern.
Battery pack(s) to charge your phone (there is no electricity at the campsite).
Towel and toiletries; a flannel may be useful for washing as there are no showers.
Rubbish bags: you will need to take all rubbish away with you!
Day rucksack: typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely
Boots: waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking, trainers are OK if the ground is dry and there’s little chance of rain
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
Trousers: ideally no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain; breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry on warm days. Shorts are okay but don't provide protection from brambles or ticks.
Waterproof jacket: essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
**Things you are strongly advised to bring:**
Hat or cap: we will be spending two full days outside in open countryside in summer
Sunglasses: as above
Sun cream: as above
**Things you could bring if you have them:**
Camping chair and table: can make life much more comfortable and sociable when relaxing back at camp
Cooking gear if you want to prepare any food and hot drinks not bought at the farm shop/local pub; inc. camping stove, fuel, cooking utensils, plates, cutlery, washing up gear. A cool box can be useful but note there is no freezer to refreeze the ice packs.
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.; painkillers, insect repellent, antihistamine cream and sting relief cream just in case.
Waterproof trousers or gaiters: useful even in summer in case of wet conditions
Gloves: light gloves in case you get cold or need to negotiate brambles or rough surfaces
Food & drink
Breakfast: Option to buy from the farm shop (after 9am).
Lunch: You will need to bring packed lunches for Friday and Saturday.
Dinner: Option to buy dinner at a pub a few minutes’ drive away on Thursday and Friday; there will be a BBQ at the Farm Shop on Saturday, which is included in the price of the event.
All other food and drink you will need to bring with you (there are food shops only a few minutes’ drive away).
