This event is part of the OutdoorLads 2025 *BIG Peaky Weekender* and participation is intended for those attending the weekend event.
Join Rich on this 15km Hike - we will set off from Thornbridge Outdoor Centre at 10:45am so those wanting to do the local parkrun can join us (or maybe you just fancy a lie-in). We'll follow the Monsal Trail, passing through the atmospheric Headstone Tunnel before emerging to breathtaking views over Monsal Dale – perfect for a few Instagram-worthy snaps.
From there, we’ll descend to walk alongside the River Wye, continue up through Deep Dale, and make our way to the historic Magpie Mine. Set amid rolling fields near Sheldon, Magpie Mine is one of the best-preserved lead mines in the Peak District. With its ruined stone buildings, old chimneys, and winding gear still standing, it offers a striking glimpse into the area's 19th-century mining heritage. It’s an evocative and photogenic spot — perfect for a lunch break with a side of history.
After refuelling, we’ll head on to the charming village of Ashford-in-the-Water for a cheeky drink at the local pub. Then it’s a relaxed hike back up the hill to Thornbridge to round off the day.
The route includes a mix of gravel, mud, uneven ground, grass, and tarmac, so sturdy hiking footwear is strongly recommended.
