12.5 miles 1000m ascent (or 11 miles with 750m ascent and a shortcut at the end)

This event is part of the OutdoorLads 2025 *BIG Peaky Weekender* and participation is intended for those attending the weekend event.

This is a challenging walk of 12.5 miles and covers five of the highest peaks in the area, and adds up to a mountain equivalent 1000 metres of ascent. Starting from Thornbridge Outdoors, we will traverse Monsal Head and take a panorama around the valley.

Along the way we shall see breath-taking views from high above the River Monsal, with its limestone cliffs and caves defining the beauty of the white peak. We shall also scramble up to St. Peter's rock, and traverse the valley, following a new route to give the best view of this outcrop where criminals used to be hung!

There will be some good paths as well as some steep ascents over rougher ground at times, great to give you a good workout. Your footwear will need to be comfortable so you can handle uneven ground and enjoy the vistas without worrying about your feet. There will also be plenty of time to stop and rest, see the wild orchids and other wildlife, and have a play at being a monster of the Peak.

This is not only a monstrous challenge. Several monsters of the Peak roamed this area in days gone by and some are reported still. Find out more along the way!

You will need a packed lunch. On the way back to the centre, there will be an opportunity to drop into a village pub, but that will be near the end, so ensure you have plenty of food and drink with you. In the event of rainy weather, we may use less exposed routes with more shelter.

On the way back in the afternoon, if you are feeling tired, there will be an option to take a short cut, shaving 250m ascent and a mile and a half from the route if you're feeling tired. We may also stop at a pub when nearing the end, for some refreshment.
