Promenade walk. Tarmac paths

Fancy taking a gentle evening stroll along the infamous ‘Golden Mile’ along Blackpool sea front, under the flashing lights of the Illuminations? Taking in the lights, sights and sounds of Blackpool promenade? Take a stroll with us starting near the Pleasure Beach on the South Shore, heading up to Bispham and then enjoy a ride back on the tram. (Single tram fare up to £2.80)

The Blackpool Illuminations started in 1879, with 10,000 lightbulbs along the promanade. Switched on every year for only 66 evenings during the Autumn, switching off after the bonfire night weekend. In recent years the Illuminations use over one million bulbs, yet have become carbon neutral by incorporating local wind and hydro power to offset the ever increasing glow in the night sky.

What’s going to happen?

On arrival please make yourself know to the walk leader.

Walking from the South shore, we'll head north through the Illuminations, passing the Pleasure Beach, home to the Big One, the tallest rollercoaster in the UK. On past Blackpool's three piers and the Blackpool tower, all flashing away merrily with many twinkling lights. Arriving at the end of the Illuminations some 5 miles later to take the tram back through them again to head home, maybe after some fish and chips, a play on the penny arcades or perhaps a drink in one of the pubs along the seafront

Make a weekend of it!

I’ll be staying over for the weekend in an Air BnB https://www.airbnb.co.uk/s/Blackpool/all?version=1.6.5&tab_id=all_tab&screen_size=small&query=Blackpool&checkin=2019-11-02&checkout=2019-11-03&refinement_paths%5B%5D=%2Ffor_you&map_toggle=false

I’m possibly going to the Pleasure Beach on Saturday before the evening walk, Sunday maybe a visit up Blackpool Tower, at 518ft it’s certainly not one for the faint hearted or if you suffer from vertigo. But the views from the top on a clear day are breathtaking (apparently not that I’ve been up there). Anyone staying over please let me know

This event coincides with the Blackpool Pleasure Beach last weekend fireworks display (weather permitting) which takes place during the close of the Pleasure Beach. So if the weather is kind we should hopefully see the display.
