Big Wood, Bestwood, Burntstump - Day Walk

Wrapping up and walking out is a great way to blow away the cobwebs at this time of year. Bestwood country park will not disappoint, it stretches for miles, and has a touch of mining history too, great viewpoints and Big Wood another wonderfully preserved traditional Greenwood. The gravel paths will help us keep our footing at this time of year. The Mill Lakes which is attached to the country park via a bridge over the main road, is peaceful and relaxing.
On this lengthy undulating walk we will explore both Bestwood Country Park and Burntwood Country Park. Starting at Bestwood we'll firstly head for Big Wood, then Burntwood for Lunch, and on our stroll back we'll see the peaceful Mill Lakes.
Unfortunately, this is not a dog-friendly walk.
IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.
Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, even if they are extremely mild, or who has recently tested positive for Covid-19, is asked not to attend.
What to bring
You will want your walking boots for this one, and perhaps a big thick pair of socks (because of the amount of hard paths and the walk duration). Although this is a walk starts from an urban location, we will completely leave the built up area and enter open countryside. There will be sections where we cross fields which could be muddy, so gaiters could be a good choice.
It will be January so bring plenty of layers of clothes (i.e. breathable T-shirt, a fleece and waterproof jacket to go over the lot). If you're new to walking events please see the page below for more advice https://www.outdoorlads.com/my-first-walking-event
Food & drink
Bring a packed lunch, snacks for along the way and plenty of water or other fluids to drink. A hot drink is recommended!
