Climbing is a total body workout. It is not just about strength, but requires balance, problem solving and planning. Climbing routes are like puzzles that might need some breaking down, planning or practice. Indoor climbing centres offer the challenges of climbing that you'll find on natural rock crags - simply indoors! It's a fun way to stay fit, make new friends and develop your climbing skills.
Awesome Walls Sheffield was the first climbing centre to be awarded ‘National Performance Centre’ status by the British Mountaineering Council. They provide the biggest climbing walls encompassing the widest variety of angles and styles of climbs. With grades for all abilities any climber will enjoy the routes here. It is also a great place to start climbing, so if you want to take the step into the world of climbing this is the place to try it.
To come along, you will need to register via this event page and to climb you will need to pay an entry fee directly to the climbing centre when you arrive, please see Awesome Walls's website for details. If you've not climbed at an Awesome walls centre before, save time on the day by completing their waiver.
Please check the centre's website to see their guidance on their Covid-19 Procedures, including how busy the centre is right now and particularly regarding the wearing of face masks.

What to bring
Climbing Equipment: If you have your own climbing gear (harness, shoes, chalk, Belay device & screw-gate karabiner, climbing rope etc.) you can bring this along, but please make sure it is in good condition. OutdoorLads has a limited number of harnesses and belays to lend and you can hire shoes and harnesses directly from the centre.
There is a changing area at the Climbing Centre and lockers are available, although you will need to provide your own padlock to secure it.
What to Wear: It is best to wear either shorts, combats or tracksuit bottoms. No jeans or any form of trouser which hampers movement. A t-shirt or vest is also suitable. If you have any OutdoorLads branded clothing then please try and wear this as it will give the group a good level of visibility. Any jewellery such as rings, watches, chains or bangles should be removed before beginning the session to prevent injury.
