8.5 miles (13.5 km) with 623m of ascent

Auchnafree Hill at 2588ft (789m), lies to the NE of Glen Turret and is most commonly climbed from the dam at the south end of Loch Turret. The water in this loch is extremely soft due to the local geology and it is piped directly to a local distillery near Crieff for the production of the Glenturret single malt whisky.

Starting out along the east shore of the loch, the ascent is mostly on good tracks with just the final kilometre or so of approach to the summit on moorland. We will descend by a rougher heather path over Tòn Eich and Choinneachain Hill to complete a clockwise circuit of around 8.5 miles (13.5 km).

In favourable weather conditions, the walk should be relatively straightforward and make a good introductory walk for those new to hill-walking. However if we are hit by severe winter weather in mid-February, the event may be curtailed or postponed.
