Celebration AGM Weekend: Santander Cycle & Any Bike Tour

Join us for this 20 mile Any One Any Bike urban exploration ride across London, taking in the many sights and sounds of this historic & vibrant city. We'll ride past many of the main tourist spots such as Hyde Park, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament, Victoria Embankment and the Olympic Venues plus some of the lesser known scenic areas in East London to give you a great overview of the city.
You can ride using either a hire bike from London's own Santander Cycle scheme (available at the start of the ride & dockable at the end) or bring any roadworthy bike you own be it a Brompton, hybrid, road or mountain bike. I've allowed plenty of time for photo stops while I give background information about what you can see.
Whilst this ride is primarily aimed at visitors to London, all are welcome to join and is a great introduction to cycling in the city using the Cycle Superhighways and National Cycle Network trails.
We'll be using dedicated segregated cycle lanes, canal & riverside trails, park paths & quiet roads throughout at a very leisurely/sedate pace so this can be attempted by any rider, even those not usually comfortable with city cycling. Hopefully we also shouldn't need to shower before the AGM!

What to bring
Bike: any bike you like OR hire a Santander Cycle at the start point (leader will assist with this)
Helmet: Optional for this ride as is fully segregated and at low speed. Is recommended if you have one though.
Clothing: lightweight and layered, shorts are great even in rain as they allow free movement of your legs. Avoid jeans, which are uncomfortable when wet, and baggy tracksuit bottoms, which can snag in the chain. Colourful and/or reflective clothing will make you more visible to other road users
Footwear: grippy soles if your bike has standard pedals
Gloves: optional and not usually required for Santander Cycles but will improve comfort
Punctures: spare inner tube, bike tyre pump and tyre levers if bringing your own bike
Tools: any special tools that your bike needs
Small snacks: such as chocolate or energy bars
Plenty of water: in bottle/s on your bike or in a daysack/bladder
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Eye protection: avoid getting grit or insects in your eyes, sunglasses are OK if they are not made of glass and not too shaded
Sun cream: take care, even on overcast days
Storage: small day-sack or a bag on your bike
Mobile Phone: keep it in a waterproof bag for use in emergencies
Food & drink
Make sure you have breakfast before the ride and bring some water with you plus snacks if you think you'll need an extra boost. We'll have time to eat lunch in Bethnal Green between the ride finish and the AGM.
