Gay Camping & Hostel Events in the UK

We’re OutdoorLads, the UK’s largest outdoor activities group for gay, bi and trans guys. You're sure to find a friendly gay camping or hostel event with OutdoorLads. On this page we’ve summarised everything gay campers in England, Wales and Scotland want to know before their first camp.

What types of weekend trips to OutdoorLads do?

1. Camping at gay friendly campsites

OutdoorLads have camping events almost every weekend. We select campsites in some spectacular locations and national parks like the Lake District, Peak District, Snowdonia, Cornwall and the Scottish Highlands.

Don't worry if its your first time camping. There'll always be other guys around to help you pitch your tent if you need a hand.

2. Hostels and Bunkhouses for gay, bi, and trans guys

Arguably more comfortable than camping, and ideal for beginners as there's no equipment required (except maybe bedding in bunkhouses). Hostel events can be for anywhere between 6 and 100 guys. We have great relationships with YHA, SYHA, National Trust and some great independent hostels to bring you affordable weekend breaks.

You can expect all sorts of activities from our hostel & bunkhouse events. It could be a hike up the local mountain, canoeing down the nearby river, or riding the local mountain bike trails.

3. Wild Camping & Bothys / mountain huts

Some of our events go even further! Keep an eye out for some long distance walks in the Lake District or the Scottish Highlands that include a wild camp stopover or a bothy or mountain hut. These are generally small and very basic shelters in mountainous environments to protect you from the elements overnight.

Upcoming weekends away in the UK >

The affordability of events really appealed to me when I didn't have much money. I feel it's a very inclusive organisation and I love the family feeling on the BIG events, e.g. Spring Camp.

Cheap weekends away with other gay, bi and trans guys

We have excellent relationships with campsites and hostels to bring you affordable trips in the UK. Most of our weekend events have exclusive use of the site, so you can be sure that everybody you meet is a member of OutdoorLads (or venue staff).

Full Members typically pay £20-£30 less per event than PAYG Members. Full Membership costs just £5.42/month, billed as £65/year (£52 for your first year with Direct Debit).

What equipment do I need for a typical...

...Camp?

A tent (obviously), sleeping bag appropriate for the season you plan to camp in, something to sleep on like a roll mat, and a pillow. Appropriate food, drink and cooking equipment to see you through the weekend. All camping event pages will have a camping kit list.

On some of our BIG events, you may be able to borrow some equipment. Just get in touch with us.

...Hostel?

Just bring your usual overnight bag. Rooms will be shared, so something appropriate to sleep in, and maybe some earplugs if you're sensitive to snorers. You'll need your own toiletries and towel. Check the event page for an event you're interested as you may need your own bedding.

On top of all of the above, you'll need gear appropriate to any of the day activities planned as part of the camp.

Is this a group for LGBTQ+ Campers?

It sure is. We're all gay, bi, and trans folks that just enjoy getting out more together. There are no dumb questions and all are welcome!

Does OutdoorLads run non-camping / non-hostel events?

Yes! OutdoorLads also run other outdoor events like walkingmountain walksindoor climbing & boulderingoutdoor climbingwatersports, cycling, mountain biking and more! Check out all of our events.
