This is an idyllic walk across quiet Hexhamshire pasture land with a nice woodland stretch along the edge of Dipton Dene. There'll be plenty of opportunities for photos on this route.
From Whitley Chapel it's down the hill and round the bend to cross Rowley Burn.
Rowley Burn - A tributary of Devil's Water. The name Devil's Water is derived from The D'Eivill family who had land here in the 12th century.
Onwards from Rowley Burn to pass the ruin of Ardley Stobb and on to Jingling Gate (an ancient village or settlement) towards Greenrigg Moor. After West Greenridge, it's into Dipton Dene then Dipton itself for a possible beverage at Dipton Mill Inn.
Dipton - The story goes that after defeat in the 1464 Battle of Hexham, Queen Margaret fled where by chance she arrived at Dipton and encountered robbers. She persuaded their leader to let them stay in a cave in the dene.
From Dipton its on to Dotland Park to pass Cockshaw Rigg and Pasture House. Then it's downwards into Dye House for another woodland stretch before rising out of the woods to Mollersteads and Whitley Chapel.
