West Coast Kayak and Wild Camping Expedition 2024

Back by popular demand, Join us on a 3 day guided, and catered, kayak tour of Scotland's beautiful west coast - this time we are off to explore the coast of Mull.
We will venture from our start point into the islands to seek caves, archways and sandy beaches. We should see seals and possibly porpoise and dolphins. We will take the day at our own pace - you do not need to be an experienced kayaker or even a strong swimmer. As part of the day we will take regular pauses on wild beaches and offer the chance to brew a hot drink on a wood fired kelly kettle stove.
In the evenings, we will camp on the beach and enjoy a catered meal with a glass of wine - kayaks give us the chance to carry a little bit of luxury into the islands.
Itinerary
- Friday 20th Sept - Breakfast at your own accommodation - 10am - meet guide, who will give out boats and equipment, get paddling, camp on beach with catered meal and wine.
- Saturday 21st Sept - Breakfast at camp before more paddling, lunch on beach, paddle camp on beach with catered meal and wine.
- Sunday 22nd Sept - Breakfast at camp, paddle, lunch, paddle, return to shore for 3pm.
There is lots of accommodation in the area. The event leader will be staying at a local campsite the night before the event (details below) and you will be welcome to join, but you will be responsible for making your own arrangements. There may be opportunity to add some days on to the start or end of the trip to explore the area further on foot so, if you are planning to extend your trip, do share plans with the group!
How to Book
The cost of this fantastic expedition is £450 for guided paddling, equipment, and food for three days. (The OutdoorLads refund policy does not apply - terms and conditions are as per the activity provider.)
Please be aware that it is the paying of the deposit that secures your place on the trip, rather than signing onto the trip via the OutdoorLads site. Balance payments will be requested by the provider prior to September 2024.
If a waitlist builds up, the provider may be able to Co-opt an additional operator and boats so it may be worth signing up!

What to bring
Boats and paddling kit will be provided, likewise camping kit, unless you prefer to use your own.
Some essential items below - full list can be found at
https://www.kayaksummerisles.com/what-we-provide-kayak-camp/
Personal Water Bottle - for use on water and at camp
Footwear:
Your feet will be highly likely to get wet and we recommend a spare set of socks / shoes to change into at the end of our session. Appropriate footwear includes, neoprene wetsuit shoes, water-shoes or old trainers / boots you don’t mind getting wet. For your comfort and safety, open toed footwear or bare foot is not recommended.
Lower-Half:
Swimwear or leggings work well under our neoprene dungarees. Please wear synthetic layers or merino wool. Jeans or cotton are not appropriate.
Top Half:
Synthetic or merino wool layers (no cottons or jeans) to be comfortable to the temperature of the day. It is important to also bring spare warm top layers, just incase you get cold or wet through the day, we will provide you a dry-bag to store these in. There are plenty of options to land during the day to add or remove layers to your comfort.
Suncream, Sunglasses and a Hat:
The Summer Isles very much live up to their name. Extra care is needed on the water to apply sun protection as the reflection increases exposure. A peak cap is also a wonderful accessory to shield errant paddle spray from your face.
Cameras & Phones:
Taking electronic devices onto the water, particularly the sea comes with an inherent risk. It is your decision whether you want to take it. The guide will provide dry-bags and optionally waterproof phone cases as part of our tour.
Medication:
If you are on medication or require medication stops during the day, you must declare this on the provider's booking form. This will in no way affect your booking but allows our guides to tailor the trip itinerary to include your needs.
Food & drink
The event is fully catered but you will need to arrange breakfast on the first day and bring any extra snacks or treats you may like for three days on the water.
