Part 1: OutdoorLads hike with The North Face (this event)
Part 2: The North Face interviews OutdoorLads
Background
The North Face are launching a new Pride campaign and kit range and wants to partner with OutdoorLads to champion the UK part of the project.
The primary message of this campaign is to showcase that "exploration is for all," and OutdoorLads and The North Face will be promoting this throughout Pride Month in June.
An essential element of this campaign will be a film featuring OutdoorLads and several LGBT organisations from across Europe. It will include a brilliantly coloured rainbow version of one of their bestselling tents as the main icon and will feature footage and interviews of OutdoorLads members enjoying the outdoors and showcasing our #GetOutMore ethos.
Your involvement in this project will help deliver a vital diversity message for The North Face and help promote the amazing things we, as OutdoorLads, achieve. You will need to be comfortable talking about yourself and OutdoorLads, to camera, to be able to come on this event.
What will happen
On Tuesday 22nd March join OutdoorLads and The North Face on a scenic walk at the foot of the dramatic Tryfan, in the Ogwen Valley, North Wales.
We'll walk up to Llyn Idwal, and get to a particularly nice, picturesque spot and as a group erect their one-off rainbow tent. There'll be a camera crew with a drone to take some spectacular shots of the tent and OutdoorLads members in that environment. The North Face team may interview some of us on the way to and from this spot.
The day will involve mostly filming, so expect some time standing around whilst they set up shots etc (bring a warm coat if cold).
The North Face Clothing
The North Face want their gear to feature in this film and will supply attendees with some new The North Face branded clothing to wear during filming. They have confirmed members will get an item to keep as a thank you for their efforts in participating on the day; however, at this stage, we can't confirm what that item will be.
Booking instructions
This event requires more commitment than a typical OutdoorLads walk as preparations will be made for each individual attendee. For this reason, we require attendees to email with their clothing sizes, and we'll be in touch periodically to make sure everybody is still able to attend.
Please email support@outdoorlads.com to confirm your interest in this event, and ensure you're emailing from the email address that your OutdoorLads account is registered with.
In your email, please state your:
- Shoe size
- Waist size (inches)
- T-shirt / jacket size (e.g. S, M, L, XL, XXL.)
- Trouser inseam length (inches)
Please also let us know of any other information you feel could be useful.

What to bring
Whilst The North Face will supply some kit, specifics haven't yet been confirmed, so please prepare to bring the usual walk kit list items:
Hand sanitiser and a face covering: whilst we are living with Covid-19, please bring your own to events to help keep everyone safe
Water: bring at least two litres
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Day rucksack: typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely
Boots: waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking, trainers are OK if the ground is dry and there’s little chance of rain
Gaiters: recommended for wet weather or boggy conditions
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
Trousers: ideally no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry and on warm days shorts are OK
Waterproof jacket: essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
Gloves: Windproof, or better still, waterproof gloves are the best choice, bring a spare pair if expecting rain
Hat or cap: stay warm in winter and shaded in summer
Sunglasses: for any sunny day, even in winter
Sun cream: can be useful even on cloudy and winter days
Snacks: bring biscuits, energy bars, gels, bananas, chocolate or dried fruit for example and put them somewhere easy to get hold of
Lunch: bring a packed lunch
Food & drink
Please bring a packed lunch and snacks for the journey and plenty of water, 2 litres ideally.
