About 9 miles, two steep ridges involving some grade 1 scrambling, about 850m of ascent

The Helvellyn Range contains a number of summits and this walk takes in two of them. It arrives at and leaves the summit plateau via steep ridges taking us direct to the summit of Nethermost Pike (891m) and down directly from Dollywaggon Pike (858m).

We start from Glenridding and head into Grisedale. We will climb through bracken and boulder fields, It will be steep but with plenty of hand and footholds to provide secutiry to the summit of Nethermost Pike. After enjoying the views, we head briefly south to the beautifully named Dollywaggon Pike before gently picking our ay down The Tongue to reach the valley bottom of Grisedale and return to the start.

A head for heights and comfort with some exposure on steep ground are essential for this walk.

Anyone looking for overnight accommodation will have plenty of options in Glenridding and Patterdale, including hotel and BnB. For YHA accommodation try Patterdale or Helvellyn. There's a very handy camp site at Gillside Farm too, check out their website.
