Gravelfoyle winter loop
3 people attending
1 place left
We will follow the way-marked gravel trails that lead from Aberfoyle into the Loch Ard forest. There are three loops which are 10, 20 and 30km long - the aim will be to do the 30km loop, but we can cut it short if the weather is a bit dodgy.
This website shows the trails we will follow: https://www.gravelfoyle.com/waymarked-routes
The trails are generally pretty good quality, but we will be a little distant from roads, so you will need to have spare inner tubes and some warm and waterproof clothes.
This event will be in partnership with out MTB which is an LGBT mountain biking group.
Also, some of us shall be un-winding post-ride with a visit to a wee rural sauna, which is next to Loch Venachar, about a 35 minute drive from Aberfoyle. It costs £15 for an hour and you can run in and out of the loch to your hearts delight! I will be booking a slot at 3PM, feel free to join me and book yourself a place using this link: https://venturevenachar.com/sauna/

THIS EVENT MAY BE CANCELLED IF THE WEATHER FORECAST IS LOOKING REALLY BAD!

IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete the Cycling Participation Statement in addition to booking your event space before attending a cycling event.

What to bring
- A good quality mountain bike or gravel bike.
- At least one spare inner tube, tyre levers and pump for your bike. Make sure it's the correct type and size. Plus any special tools your bike needs.
- Clothing: choose suitable clothes and footwear for the weather forecast and time of year. You will be exercising so lightweight layered clothing is best, but bring plenty of layers as it is likely to be cold. Shorts or close-fitting trousers are best even in rain, as they allow free movement of your legs. Jeans are useless if it rains but tracksuit bottoms need to be not too baggy or they may snag in the chain and cause an accident. You'll need flat soled trainers for standard pedals. Warm gloves are essential!
- Cyclist's Helmet - Outdoorlads policy asks you to wear a helmet to events
- Bag you will need a small day-sack to carry essential additional warm clothing, water and an emergency snacks.
- A change of clothing, towel etc for when we finish as you'll probably be covered in mud when we finish!
- A bike light is a good idea as there is a small amount of road riding
Any questions, please ask the leader
Food & drink
Please bring substantial amounts of water (at least 1.5 litres) and snacks. A hot drink can also be nice. There are shops in Aberfoyle, but there are no shops on the trail.
