Callendar, Comrie and Lochearnhead gravel triangle
5 people attending
7 places left
This is a shortened version of the Monster loop from the Gravel Rides Scotland book. We will start in Callander and head straight into the trails, climbing north and then east across fantastic gravel trails to reach Comrie. This might be a good place for a cafe stop, before heading west along the old railway line that links to Lochearnhead, following the northern shores of Loch Earn. We then hit national cycle route 7, which will take us back to Callander.
The loop is 71 km, I can send the GPX file to anyone interested. The part along Loch Earn can be a bit rough and soggy in places, so there is the chance of needing a little hike-a-bike here and there.
The section from Callander to Comrie features pretty good trails, but it is reasonably far from proper roads, so you need to ensure you have appropriate spare parts in case of mechanical problems.

IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete the Cycling Participation Statement in addition to booking your event space before attending a cycling event.

What to bring
- A good quality mountain bike or gravel bike.
- At least one spare inner tube, tyre levers and pump for your bike. Make sure it's the correct type and size. Plus any special tools your bike needs.
- Clothing: choose suitable clothes and footwear for the weather forecast and time of year. You will be exercising so lightweight layered clothing is best, but bring plenty of layers as it is likely to be cold. Shorts or close-fitting trousers are best even in rain, as they allow free movement of your legs. Jeans are useless if it rains but tracksuit bottoms need to be not too baggy or they may snag in the chain and cause an accident. You'll need flat soled trainers for standard pedals. Warm gloves are essential!
- Cyclist's Helmet - Outdoorlads policy asks you to wear a helmet to events
- Bag you will need a small day-sack to carry essential additional warm clothing, water and an emergency snacks.
- A change of clothing, towel etc for when we finish as you'll probably be covered in mud when we finish!
- A bike light is a good idea as there is a small amount of road riding
Any questions, please ask the leader
Food & drink
Please bring substantial amounts of water (at least 1.5 litres) and snacks. There will not be anywhere to buy food or drink between Callander and Comrie. There should be a few more options from Comrie onwards.
