BSC2022: Trad/Multipitch Climbing (Saturday 09:30am)
12 people attending
0 places left
This is one of the events organised as part of Big Spring Camp 2022.
Join us for a full day of Outdoor (trad/multi pitch) Climbing as part of this year’s Big Spring Camp.
For this year’s Big Spring Camp we providing two days of outdoor climbing aimed at differing abilities.
On the Saturday we are able to offer experienced outdoor climbing instructor Nick to provide a day of trad single and multi-pitch climbing. The precise nature of the day will depend on the number of members who sign up, their previous experience and the weather on the day,
The multi-pitch option will only be available to a small number of more experienced climbers; if this is your preference, please let the event leader know when you sign up to the event (Please let the leader know your recent climbing experience and what climbing gear you have).
This event is aimed at climbers with recent Outdoor (Trad) experience, although we will try to cater for less experienced climbers too, depending on the availability of leaders and the experience of other climbers). At the very least you must have some recent indoor Lead Climbing experience including Lead belaying, ideally with OutdoorLads.
IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
As a BMC Affiliate member, Outdoorlads draws your attention to the fact that climbing is an activity with a danger of personal injury or death. You should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for your own actions and involvement.
Please note that every person participating should be aware of (and accept) that those members perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified, and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves as ‘technical experts’ but are amateur climbers with some experience and who are happy to impart their knowledge. Any advice given should be considered with this in mind by the recipient.
Members should also understand that rock climbing is weather-dependant – more so than some other outdoor activities (not least as it can be dangerous to climb on wet rock). Whilst we will do everything reasonably possible to run the event as described, the event leader may need to change the location and/or other event details to best suit the anticipated weather. We will advise members booked on, or interested, in the event of this as soon as is practical, but you should understood that in certain circumstances it may be necessary to move the event to an indoor climbing centre, or cancel the event all together.
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.
Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, even if they are extremely mild, or who has recently tested positive for Covid-19, is asked not to attend.

What to bring
Kit List: You will need to bring your own climbing gear, including: helmet, harness, rock shoes, Belay plate and screw-gate karabiner and chalk bag. If you don't have any of these these, please message the event leader when booking as we may able to provide them - but unfortunately we can't provide climbing shoes.
If you have outdoor climbing gear, including rope(s) and rack then please bring these along too so that we can ensure we’re not short and to give us a bit of flexibility on the day, but please make sure it is in good condition.
What to Wear: Bring clothes suitable for spending a full day outdoors, which should include wind & waterproofs, and a few layers that will allow you to be comfortable whilst climbing as well as when belaying and between climbs. (Outdoor climbing can mean a lot of standing around!) Also wear boots or sturdy trainers for the walk up to the crag.
Food & drink
You will need a packed lunch, drinks and any snacks to last you the day as we will hope to spend the full day at the crag.
