Approximately 8 miles. Mixed terrain including a couple of uphill climbs

Join Mike and OutdoorLads for a circular 8-mile walk from Witton Country Park in Blackburn to Hoghton Bottoms. We will make our way through the woodland, parkland and farmland of Witton Country Park, former home of the Feilden family.

Witton House was sadly demolished in the 1950s, but the historic outbuildings remain. We will make our way up through Billinge Woods and visit the Wainwright memorial at the top of the hill, paying tribute to famous fell walker, Alfred Wainwright.

We will then pass through the village of Pleasington via Pleasington Priory and the Golf Club before walking alongside the River Darwen towards Hoghton Viaduct, a Grade II listed railway viaduct passing over the River Darwen. Our walk will then take us upstream crossing woodland and farmland before we meet the main road leading back towards Pleasington.

We will stop for lunch mid-way through the walk. There will also be an opportunity to stop for refreshments in one of the local establishments in Pleasington before heading back to the car park.
