Join OutdoorLads for a full day of watersport and adventure activities in conjunction with Omega Outdoor Adventure based at Midlands Open Water near Tamworth in Staffordshire.
All members of the LGBTQ+ community will be warmly welcomed!
This adventure day can be as challenging and competitive, or as relaxed, as you like. It is an opportunity for OutdoorLads members to try new things, learn some new skills and to socialise with other members. The day will be made up of a small mix of water-based and land-based activities that we swap around in roughly 90 minute sessions. There will be paddleboarding followed by archery (to dry off and take a break from the water) in the morning and then back on the water for some friendly team raft-building after lunch.
NOTE: Whilst this day is aimed toward those members who are new to watersport activities, all members are warmly welcome to attend this event. The day is appropriate for all abilities and the instructor will tailor the sessions based on the needs of the group.
Here is the proposed timetable for the day:
10:00-10:15 - Meet and Greet (plus paperwork and safety briefing etc.)
10:15-11:45 - Stand-Up Paddleboarding
11:45-12:00 - Break
12:00-13:30 - Archery
13:30-14:15 - Lunch (bring your own)
14:15-15:45 - Raft Building
15:45-16:00* - Wrap Up and Review (plus changing into dry clothes etc.)
* We will aim to leave the site by 4:15pm at the latest!
OMEGA OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
Based in the West Midlands, Omega Outdoor Adventure is a small team of experienced and qualified staff dedicated to providing amazing adventures that are accessible, affordable and promote learning! They specialise in education through outdoor activities. All of their sessions are designed to encourage and develop vital life skills using new and progressive experiences to promote development (such as communication, teamwork and confidence). They are AALA (Adventure Activities Licensing Authority) licensed and Paddle UK delivery partners. All of their staff are enhanced DBS checked and all of their instructors are first aid trained alongside their coaching qualifications. Please take a look at their website for more information.
MIDLAND OPEN WATER
Voted the original and best open water swim venue in the Midlands for 3 years running, Midland Open Water is a family owned, private venue. Much love and care has been put into this completely natural lake with no added chemicals. They use bales of barley straw to naturally cleanse the water. The lake is sloped all the way in and out, so there is no dropping off an edge. Please take a look at their website for more information. This really is a magical place to swim & spend time; I can highly recommend it if you've never been before (leader Kev's personal recommendation)!!!
Waiting List: If the event is full, please do join the waiting list as spaces may become available closer to the event date. If you are subsequently unable to attend, please cancel off the event. Spaces are limited and 'no-shows' are frustrating for the leader and other attendees.
If you have any questions or need any more information just get in touch with the event leader by clicking on their profile below, or take a look at the My First Event page for more information. A list of Frequently Asked Questions about our events can be found on the FAQ page.
PLEASE NOTE: Every person participating should be aware of and accept that those members of OutdoorLads perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves, as ‘technical experts’ in any watersport or outdoor adventure activities.
All those attending the event must also be aware of Omega Outdoor Adventure's own terms and conditions of participation and abide by them, along with any instructions given by Omega instructors. Everyone must also take responsibility for their own safety while participating in this event.
IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.

WHAT TO WEAR:
- Comfortable but OLD clothes (that you don't mind getting wet and dirty)
- Comfortable but OLD footwear or 'wet shoes' (that you don't mind getting wet and dirty)
- It would be advisable to bring a waterproof coat, an additional warm layer, a hat and some gloves (just in case; though we hope these won't be needed in June, the great British weather can be somewhat changeable!)
- Sun Cream (fingers crossed it's warm and sunny)
- Sun Hat
- Tie up any long hair
- Please DO NOT wear any jewellery
- Kindly leave expensive items at home or locked in your car (at your own risk)
WHAT TO BRING:
- FULL CHANGE of clothes and shoes (can be kept in the car)
- A towel (can be kept in car)
- Lunch, snacks and plenty of water (to sustain your energy for a full day of activity on the water)
- Good manners, a smile and a sense of adventure
Food & drink
Please bring a packed lunch, snacks and plenty of water for a full day of activity (10am-4pm). Keep in mind this event will be during the early summer so it's anyone's guess how warm it might be. In my experience, it can often be easy to get dehydrated during water-based activities!
We will most likely take a short break mid-morning and a longer lunch break in the early afternoon.
