Starting in Dundry (Either meaning the hill that is dry, or a fort) with its church with a four stage tower erected in the 15th century and located a couple of miles south of Bristol, we'll take in spectacular views over the entire city and if the weather is clear we should even be able to see Wales. We'll then head over to Maes Knoll and eat lunch on top of the Iron age fort, where there should be clear views north to Bristol, east to Bath and the Cotswold Hills, and south over Stanton Drew stone circles to Chew Valley Lake and the Mendip Hills. From here there's quite a few up's and down's as we head through the hamlet of East Dundry, before a long climb back up to take in the Grade 2 listed Castlefarm House and one last chance to take in the views over Barrow Gurney reservoirs and Bristol before heading back in to Dundry for a well deserved pint.
Dogs are welcome on this walk but we will be passing through farm land where they will need to be under control. There are also one or two styles that may prove difficult for larger breeds.

What to bring
Water: bring at least two litres
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Day rucksack: typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely
Boots: waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking NOT trainers. We will be passing by several natural springs where the ground will most likely be muddy.
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
Trousers: ideally no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry and on warm days shorts are OK
Waterproof jacket: essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
Gloves: Windproof, or better still, waterproof gloves are the best choice, bring a spare pair if expecting rain
Hat or cap: stay warm in winter and shaded in summer
Sunglasses: for any sunny day, even in winter
Snacks: bring biscuits, energy bars, gels, bananas, chocolate or dried fruit for example and put them somewhere easy to get hold of
Lunch: bring a packed lunch unless otherwise stated
Food & drink
A packed lunch and plenty to drink will be essential on this walk. There are no shops in Dundry or on the route so please come prepared, and don't forget money for a pint at the end.
