Tour de Needwood and the Chase

Join us on this road ride in Needwood Forest, a little known part of the National Forest deep in the Heart of England. We start from the cathedral city of Lichfield, riding past the Cathedral, before climbing into Cannock Chase. From there we ride into the quiet, undiscovered roads of Needwood itself, which until Victorian times was a vast wild wood replete with tales of highwaymen and beasts. Today, Needwood's high elevation ensures long views, with fun rolling straight roads lined by veteran oaks. We'll stop at Barton Under Needwood or Fradley Junction for a quick bite before returning to Lichfield.

Pace and Terrain
All on road, with a fair amount of climbing, but less than most of our rides. In case of poor weather or failing light, we will ride a shorter route.
The event pace and route is designed for road bikes rather than hybrids and is aimed at those who are reasonably bike fit, however the day is intended to be an outing rather than an endurance test. We will stop for slower riders to catch up whilst going faster in between stops to allow them to develop their technique and fitness. Broadly, anyone who has recently cycled over 50 miles and who has tackled hilly rides without too much difficulty will be able to complete this ride.
