Three Shires Head and Shutlingsloe

Setting out from Wildboarclough, we ascend to Whetstone Ridge (547m) via Cumberland Clough, there then follows an exposed high level crossing of open moorland with fine views south to the Roaches. After crossing the Buxton - Congleton Road, a steep descent takes us down to the headwaters of the River Dane which we follow to Three Shires Head, the meeting point of the 3 counties of Cheshire Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
From Three Shires Head we return via a different route to Wildboarclough before tackling an ascent of Shutlingsloe (506m) Often referred to as the Cheshire Matterhorn due to its distinctive steep sided summit. This is a very steep ascent and the return is down the same route, but certainly worth the effort for the views of Macclesfield Forest and much of Cheshire beyond.
NOTE: For anyone wishing to bring a dog, much of the area we pass through dogs are banned in any access areas and therefore must be kept on a short lead whilst on Public Footpaths.
The early start is due to limited parking in the area, and number of participants limited to 12 for the same reason. Please only sign up if you are sure you will be attending.
